Indian Railway Budget - Mumbai will have 38 Adarsh railway stations

Railway Budget - Union railway minister Mamata Banerjee in her Indian railway budget hopes to make 38 railway stations in Maharashtra out of 375 in the country ‘Adarsh’ (model) stations. She defines an Adarsh station - Developing stations with basic facilities such as drinking water, adequate toilets, catering services, waiting rooms and dormitories especially for lady passengers, better signage and other basic facilities which are universally available.
The stations in Mumbai are Andheri, Bandra, Belapur, Charni Road, Chembur, Churchgate, Currey Road, Dadar, Dahanu Road, Dockyard Road, Dombivili, Ghatkopar, Karjat, Kasara, Khopoli, King’s Circle, Kurla, Malad, Marine Lines, Matunga, Mira Road, Mulund, Mumbai Central (local), Nahur, Naigaon, Sanpada, Santa Cruz, Sewri, Tilak Nagar, Turbhe, Ulhasnagar, Vashi and Virar.

Union railway minister also intends to go ahead with developing Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST), Pune and Nagpur stations in Maharashtra as world class stations.

Nursing college at Kalyan
Of the 18 locations identified for openingmedical colleges to provide higher education facilities to new generation of railway employees, one will be in Nagpur. Railways also plans to open seven nursing colleges across the country, including one at Kalyan.

A weekly pilot service will be introduced within 3 months between Mumbai-Delhi . The trains with AC seating facility, will have a fare of 299 for distances up to 1,500 km and Rs 399 for distances up to 2,500 km

Monthly tickets of Rs 25, surcharge free, to travel up to 100 km, for members of the unorganised sector with monthly incomes of not more than Rs 1,500. The tickets will be available for travel on both suburban and nonsuburban sections

NEW PLATFORM AT BORIVLI

Platform 6A will come up at Borivli, at a cost of Rs 14.5 crore. The 15-coach platform will be used for both suburban and long-distance services

WORLD CLASS CST STATION

Announced in the last budget, AREP France has been appointed consultant. It will be financed through public-private partnership

HANDICAP-FRIENDLY

Railway stations will have more ramps, lifts, escalators There will be special coaches for physically challenged and aged persons

AMBULANCES

Ambulance services at all stations

ADARSH STATIONS

Adarsh stations will be stations that will have basic facilities such as drinking water, adequate toilets, catering services, waiting rooms. In the city, they will be Andheri, Bandra, Bhayandar, Borivali, Charni Road, Churchgate, Dadar, Dahanu Road, Goregaon, Malad, Marine Lines, Mira Road, Mumbai Central (local), Naigaon, Okha, Santacruz, Saphale, Vangaon and Virar.

Railways Puts Mumbai Suburban train travel on fast track - Provides Rs.5,300Cr For Modernisation Under Mutp-II

In what can provide succour to lakhs of communiters, Indian Railways (IR) has provided Rs.5,300 crore for modernisation and improvement of suburban services under the Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP-II)

The railways intends to starts 300 suburban services using improved infrastructure and new trains under the world Bank-funded MUTP. Although railway ministry officials said allocation would be made in real sense from this year.

In the last four years, the railways intends to lay the fifth and sixth lines from CST to Kurla and Thane to Diva. As of now, work is on in full swing to lay an additional pair of tracks between Thane and Kurla as part of MUTP-I.

MUTP-II also envisages laying the sixth line between Borivali and Mumbai Central. Work on extending the Harbour Line from Andheri to Goregaon has already started using surplus funds from MUTP-I, said officials in the Mumbai Railways Vikas Corporation(MRVC).

Railway officials said laying additional tracks under MUTP-II would segregate suburban train operations from the Main Line mail/express trains and freight services.

MRVC would also use part of the funds MUTP-II to convert power supply from 1,500-volt direct current (DC) to 25,000-volt alternate current (AC) to run suburban trains faster. MRVC has finished DC to AC conversion on a majority of the Western Railways(WR) net work under MUTP-I. The funds under MUTP-II will be used to finished the DC to AC conversion on the Thane-CST section oc Central Railways, said officials.

MRVC would continue to get new rakes under MUTP-II. Mumbai will get 7812-coach trains, said an official.
