Jaane tu…ya jaane na…

Monday, July 7th, 2008

A much needed HIT…after a long gap.

‘Jaane Tu ya Jaane Na’ (A film conceived and produced by Bandra genius’) is very refreshing movie after a long time. It is  entertaining and cute. It touches your heart and makes you smile at the same time. There is nothing new in the story but the treatment has made it rock …. Well, winners don’t do different things, they do things differently…..

The film is about Jai Singh Rathore (Imraan Khan), a Rajput who doesn’t fight and Aditi Mahant (Genelia D’Souza), vivacious, cute, pretty young girl who loves to fight. Aditi and Jai are best friends but they fight like crazy and yet can’t live without each other. Their parents and friends think they are made for each other but they don’t believe that. And at some point they realize – they love each other. That’s all is the story…. Sounds too simple…..! In spite of being such simple story it takes you back to your college days Just like “Dil Chahata hai” did. . . .

Must say – the credit goes to the director completely as he has executed such a simple story with brilliance and made it very entertaining. There is happiness, sadness, Jealousy, friendship, love – all performed perfectly. The best scenes are  between Jai’s mother (Ratna Pathak Shah) and his dead father who talks from a portrait (Naseruddin Shah). The friendship between the gang of 6 friends…so natural. The dialogues are catchy and very witty.

The strongest point of the movie is the performance of each and every character. Imraan Khan,of course a Bandra Boy is very impressive. Genelia D’Souza’s confidence personified. Simply wonderful…and so real like…. Pratiek Babbar looks good and acted very well. The Bandra couple Ratna Pathak Shah and Naseeruddin Shah were superb. ( Next time when I see Ratna Pathak walk on Carter Road I must tell her how impressed I am with her work) In spite of just a few scenes Paresh Rawal has done what a good actors can do in a small role. Arbaaz Khan and Suhail Khan…hey they are just rocking. They make you laugh every time they came on the screen. Excellent performances from every actor.

A.R. Rehman, simply WOW ! Check out these songs -  “Pappu cant dance saala” “Kabhi Kabhi Aditi” and the title track just made for these characters.

A Must Watch – Film…..indeed….
