Bandra Worli Sea Link | Four new lanes of the Bandra Worli Sea Link to open on March 24

Wednesday, March 17th, 2010

Four additional lanes of the Bandra-Worli Sea Link will open to traffic by March 24, instead of March 16 as scheduled earlier.

Motorists moving from South Mumbai to the suburbs can use the new lanes after March 24 as some final touches are yet to be given to the north carriageway.

It was not opened on Gudi Padwa as planned earlier. Some work like painting, signages, etc remains. It will be opened by March 24  according to the Minister of Public Works Department (public undertakings). The carriageway was to be commissioned by 2009 December but was delayed as work was behind schedule.

Now, the four lanes of the operational carriageway are divided into two each for north- and south-moving traffic, resulting in some accidents. The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) is pinning its hopes on the carriageway to minimise accidents. There have been no accidents on the sea link for the last few months.

20 points to prove You are a pakka Mumbaiya (Bambaiya)

Thursday, March 11th, 2010

1. You say ‘town ‘ and expect everyone to know that this means south of Churchgate.

2 You speak in different Hindi than rest of the country called ‘Bambaiya Hindi’, which only Bombayites can understand.

3. Your Main door of the house has more than three locks.

4. Your Rs.500 worth of groceries fit in one paper bag.

5. Train timings ( 9.17 , 10.38 etc) are very important events in your life.

6. You spend more time every day on the road traveling than you spend at home.

7. You call an 8′ x 10′ tiny room a Hall.

8.. You’re paying Rs 10,000 for a 1 room flat, the size of walk-in closet and you think it’s a ’steal.’

9. You have the following sets of friend: school friends, college friends, neighborhood friends, office friends and yes, train friends, a species unique only in Bombay. (REALLY TRUE)

10. Cabbies and bus conductors think you are from Mars if you call the roads by their Indian name, they are more familiar with Warden Road, Peddar  Road, Altamount Road

11. Stock market quotes are the only other thing* besides cricket which you follow passionately.

12. The first thing that you read in the Times of India is the ‘ Bombay Times’ supplement.

13. You take fashion seriously. You’re suspicious of strangers who are actually nice to you.

14. You compare Bombay to New York ’s Manhattan instead of any other cities of India.

15. The most frequently used part of your car is the horn.

16. You insist on calling CST as VT, and Sahar and Santacruz airports instead of Chatrapati Shivaji International Airport.

17. Your idea of personal space is no one actually standing on your toes.

18. Being truly alone makes you nervous.

19. You love wading through knee deep mucky water in the monsoons, and actually call it ”romantic’.

20. Only in Bombay, you would get Chinese Dosa and Jain Chicken

Welcome to the first KBS Foundation ‘Car Free Day‘, an annual event to be held at Carter Road, Bandra on February 21st, Sunday 2010.

Trough this event we hope to encourage the use of bycles in our suburb (Bandra) and spread awareness about reducing emissions and pollution through out ‘Active Transportation’ - Walking and cycling Project.

Mumbai Car Free Day is an all day Sunday programme that encourages physical activity in fuel-free and cleaner air for the young and old citizens to come outdoors and enjoy the streets.

KBS Foundation is a non-profit, non-political, social and charitable organisation. It was formed by committed and concerned citizens of Khar,Bandra and Santacruz.

About ‘ Active Transportation’

KBSF will submit a proposal KBSF Cycle Project - 15 km dedicated Cycle Lanes for bandra-Khar to the Chief Minister Shri Ashok Chavan, with the help of MP Smt. Priya Dutt and MLA Shri.Baba Siddiqui.

This dream project will be the first of its kind, and if approved will drastically change the quality of life in the suburbs.
