MAMI - 11th Mumbai Film Festival (Oct. 29 - Nov. 5, 2009)

MAMI (Mumbai Academy of Moving Image) - 11th Mumbai Film Festival will be held from Oct. 29 - Nov. 5, 2009. The Festival screening venues are Fun Republic at Andheri West (4 screens), Metro Big Cinemas at South Mumbai (2 screens) and Big Cinemas R City Mall at Ghatkopar (2 screens) for all shows from October 30th to November 5th, 2009 (except opening, closing ceremonies and other special events organized during the festival).

Mumbai - The most important city for Indian Film Industry and very well known as the financial capital of India. Mumbai plays a significantly major role in production of Indian films and television programmes. Mumbai is also known as ‘BOLLYWOOD‘.

In 1997, a group of film industry stalwarts headed by late Hrishikesh Mukherjee founded the MAMI - Mumbai Academy of Moving Image as a not for profit Trust. The main intention was to organize an annual International Film Festival of which the film industry and the country can be proud of.

MAMI aims to foster a climate of good cinema. Appreciation of good cinema, stripped off all the limiting labels of art and commercial, can only come about through exposure to the best of films the world has to offer.

11th Mumbai Film Festival (MFF) will honour two extremely talented film-makers from India and abroad. Indian actor-producer Shashi Kapoor will receive the Indian lifetime achievement award at the inaugural function of the Festival on October 29, 2009.

Legendary Greek film-maker Theo Angelopoulos will be presented the international lifetime achievement award in the closing ceremony of the Festival onNovember 5, 2009.

You need to register as a delegate in order to watch festival films and participate in other events such as master-classes, workshops and open forum organized as part of the 11th Mumbai Film Festival (Oct. 29 - Nov. 5, 2009.

Your delegate card gives you access to the Festival screening at all the festival venues including Fun Republic at Andheri West (4 screens), Metro Big Cinemas at South Mumbai (2 screens) and Big Cinemas R City Mall at Ghatkopar (2 screens) for all shows from October 30th to November 5th, 2009 (except opening, closing ceremonies and other special events organized during the festival).

All screens will have 5 shows per day. Admission for all shows is on first-come-first-served basis.

Registered delegates will be provided a copy of Official Festival catalogue and daily festival bulletins.

Any adult (18 years or above) can apply to become a festival delegate.

Kylie Minogue , performed and managed to impress the Indian director with her Bollywood style latkas and zatkas in spite of just three days of rehearsals for the upcoming film Blue. Kylie Minogue was excited to work with Oscar-winning music composer AR Rahman.

Kylie Minogue, is an Australian pop singer, songwriter, and actress. Kylie Minogue began her career on Australian television, as a child artist.  The television soap opera Neighbours, made her very popular after which she began her career as a recording artist in the year 1987. Her “The Loco-Motion”, was at number one on the Australian singles chart for seven weeks and became the decades highest selling single. Kylie, her debut album, and “I Should Be So Lucky” reached number one in UK and in no time her first thirteen singles reached the British top ten. Kylie Minogue’s  first film, The Delinquents (1989) was super hit Australia and UK.

Kylie Minogue also performed during the closing ceremonies of the 2000 Sydney Olympics and again gained popularity in 2000 with her “Spinning Around”. Her “Can’t Get You Out of My Head” became number one in more than 40 countries so was her album Fever (2001).

Kylie Minogue also saw 60 million -  worldwide record sales and has received many music awards. She received multiple ARIA and Brit Awards and also a Grammy Award. For her live performances she received a Mo Award for “Australian Entertainer of the Year”.

Manna Dey | Manna Dey nominated for Dada Saheb Phalke Award | Manna dey top 5 popular songs

Dada Saheb Phalke Award -  the highest honour in Indian filmdom. The award carries a cash prize of Rs 10 lakh, a Swarna Kamal and a shawl. Eminent singer Manna Dey has been nominated for the Dada Saheb Phalke award for lifetime contribution to Indian cinema.

The award  ceremony will tae place on October 21 and Manna Dey will receive Dada Saheb Phalke Award by President Pratibha Patil.

Manna Dey, the great playback singers has sung more than 3500 songs during his long carrer. Manna Dey, ruled the music scene from the 1950s to the 1970s. Manna Dey has won many other awards in his career.  He also won the National Award for the Hindi film `Mere Huzur’ and the Bengali film `Nishi Padma’. Manna Day has also been honoured with the Padmashri and Padma Bhushan.

Some of his popular songs include `Laga chunri mein daag’, `Pyaar hua iqraar hua’, `Ye raat bheegi bheegi’, `Masti Bhara hai sama’ and ‘tum agaar sath dene ka vada karo’.

We have heard that’s Blue - directed by debutant director Anthony D’Souza — is the most expensive film ever made in India. It reportedly costs about Rs 80 crores.

The film, which also stars Sanjay Dutt and Zayed Khan, is about the hunt for treasure buried in shark-infested waters.
