The Commonwealth Games!

Saturday, January 30th, 2010

This year the Common Wealth games are to be held in Delhi and preparations are on in full swing for the games to become a huge success. So India is the destination for the next games and we all should be proud that India finally got an opportunity to host an international event. The event in 2010 in Delhi will be the 9th CW game to be held.

Mr Jarnail Singh has been appointed CEO of the Organising Committee of the CWG to be held in Delhi in 2010. Preparations are on in full swing and although we are a bit behind the schedule, as far as the games are concerned, I am sure that when the time comes, we will be world beaters and host a challenging show.

There are 17 sports to feature in the XIX Commonwealth Games 2010 Delhi. They will be held at six venue clusters and five venues in Delhi. The following is the plan for the Games:

Ceremonies, Athletics, Lawn Bowls and Weightlifting will be held at Cluster I: Jawaharlal Nehru Sports Complex;

Cycling, Gymnastics and Wrestling at Cluster II: Indira Gandhi Sports Complex; Archery (Qualification Rounds) and Table Tennis at Cluster III: Yamuna Sports Complex;

Badminton and Squash at Cluster IV: Siri Fort Sports Complex;

Hockey and Archery Finals (India Gate) at Cluster V: MDC National Stadium Complex; Swimming and Boxing at Cluster VI: Talkatora Garden Complex.

The CWG committee has constructed 26 new training venues and 16 old ones will be renovated and updated.

The work is progressing rapidly and as in 1982, all hopes will be on India to host the Ultimate in sports and games. If you have the time, you can book your tickets and plan your CWG itinerary from now.

The official site of the CWG is one and you can volunteer as a businessman, as an entrepreneur, a sports enthusiast or even as an ordinary citizen. The CWG involves the elite athletes of the Commonwealth Nations, a group of 53 countries over the world.

Mumbai Monorail Project | Mumbai Monorail Pictures | Monorail Test Drive

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010

Mumbai Monorail Project takes off with a Test Drive of the Mumbai Monorail on 26th Jan 2010.

Mumbai’s first monorail test ride happened on 26th January 2010. The Test Drive of Mumbai’s Monorail was done in the presence of a number of technocrats, dignitaries and the chief minister. Malaysian born S Ponnadurai test ran the light blue rake of the monorail, which arrived in the city on January 13.

Engineers of Larsen & Toubro, along with experts from Scomi, and consultants from Louis Berger, were busy giving the 110-metre test run the final touches for the past few days. The ramp, near Aanik bus depot, stretches over 250 metres.

On 25th January, the barricaded Aanik road was full of motorists peeping out of their cars and taking pictures on their mobile phones of the first monorail, which began test runs late Monday evening. Once ready, the Mumbai Monorail 20-km track will have seven power substations. The Rs2,460-crore project will be completed by 2011.

Women - Finding their calling

Friday, January 15th, 2010

Women are interesting beings. Historically, women were always considered the weaker sex, but things are changing for the better now. Women have, over the years, achieved a lot of emancipation, but there are still areas where women need to work. And if the government, law, local bodies and the civic society can make it easier for them, all the better.

Since years gone by men and women, especially, have had to work very hard to achieve their goals. Whether they be financial, relationship based, emotional security, personal or even spiritual, women have hard to work doubly hard to prove their mettle. I hope things change a bit and the approach people have softens to a certain degree. Let’s make things easier for each other. We live in a society where we all have to depend on each other, so let’s not make things really hard and complicated.

Women also have to learn to make adjustments and compromises, if they have to fit into the social fabric. I sincerely hope that certain chauvinistic and regressive sections of society do change their perspectives, as it is better if you adopt a more libertarian and inclusive approach rather than stick to traditional models of thinking.

Educated women have also to meet with unparalleled challenges. From rejection, denial, pressure, competition, professional jealousy to a host of other challenges, the climb up seems to get harder by the day. But, if you believe in yourself and keep improvising, then you can scale the topmost peak. It’s possible!

Men - The other species!

Friday, January 15th, 2010

I like men. Although Indian men get unnecessarily caught up in traps and complexities, on the whole, men are good. My search for an ideal partner saw me interacting with a lot of the other species, and my conclusion is that it was all worth it. Men are resourceful, strong, knowledgable, practical, intelligent and most importantly, they can survive.

Although the search for the elusive partner still keeps me occupied in my free time, I find the journey enjoyable. What sets men apart from women is their ability to keep at a task. While most women would give up easily, men stick to their vocations until they’ve excelled or met their goals.

Most women think that men are just lusty or physical beings; most men are, but there are men who have interesting depths to their characters too. They have a good emotional aspect, a thirst for information and most importantly, they never lose sight of their goals. Men are also the most positive species living on this planet, as no matter how bad things get, they never lose their grip, which is admirable.

Another important aspect about men which women don’t have or should work on is strength. They show strength of character, an enviable resolve and can get things done and moving. Although I hate being dependent on anyone, it is important to note the importance of a good partner in this journey of life. Many times a woman might feel that she is better off alone or that independence actually has to do with solitude, but seriously, if you have a good better half, things can really look up a lot.

So, if you’ve reached the pinnacle in your career, have read, studied, worked to your heart’s content, and if you’ve still not found your match, take my advice, take time out and find one immediately, it’s worth all the effort.
