Chatting away to self discovery!

Tuesday, August 25th, 2009

I recently made a passionate, friendly, naughty, practical but immensely talented young chat friend and I’m already a great fan of his. We are different in many ways, but he tries his level best to open my eyes to things I’m blind to and this is turning into an education of a lifetime.

So, this is one more reason for people to network and make friends. Seriously, you never know when you’ll make that all important friendship. And so, my friend is special; he has an opinion on everything under the sun. And it takes a lot of patience and perseverance to win an argument against him. As is mostly the case, I end up losing most of the times and am gaining fresh perspectives on life, relationships, love and marriage.
So, my friend, who’s name is Amit Sharma, is one helluva fiend. He’s got the most acute business and practical sense and I have nothing to defend my self against his sharp witticisms and critical reasoning. And I though I was brainy!!!

Amit is young, fresh, unadulterated fun and it’s good to see a person as determined and positive as him. He already knows what he wants from life. He is a lot younger than I am and I know for sure that he is going to go places. Ahh, the advantages of social networking! Amit is astute, clever, positive and he is able to communicate his ideas well.

I feel that although he can’t convert me from being a cynic, he has done his job well of exposing me to a different, more practical and worldly way of looking at things. And so, I have gained fresh perspectives on relationships, friends, the world in general and love and hatred at large.

I hope you too get some practical pointers on life and gain a better understanding from the various contacts you make. Social networking is a revolution in communications and I am a communications expert, even more so, after this dangerous liaison.

Pilgrimage - A divine intervention!

Monday, August 24th, 2009

Recently, I visited Shirdi and came back feeling at peace with myself. Shirdi is a place of immense power and attraction and you have to experience the peace within when you are in the presence of a divine power. When I prayed at Shirdi, I felt a sense of security and I gave up all my fears and sorrows for the time being. I wanted to convey to Baba that he was supremely more intelligent than me and that he should take care of his followers. It was a sense of surrender I felt and joy and gratitude for a higher power looking down at me. I also felt my mind expand; I was more intuitive and perceptive. Strange, but true!

It was 5 am on a Saturday morning, the town had come alive and people were dressed in all their finery to meet Baba. Legend has it, that people grow more intuitive and peaceful in the presence of a higher being. And I felt the same way. Amidst the chants of pure devotion, I felt cleansed and refreshed and a certain peace overtook my being because I knew I was in the presence of someone more powerful and greater than me.

The simple, but rich, sensitive and perceptive beings of our Hindu saints have a positive impact on the personality. You feel a sense of oneness with the universe, and the fact that troubles are coming your way only to improve your personality, is a message I received.

I prayed for my family, my friends and well wishers alike. Shirdi’s Sai Baba has an alluring presence and you can feel a sense of detachment and abandonment when you are in His presence. I am a Shirdi Sai Baba fan now!

I came back feeling refreshed and reassured that my life was in safe hands and that there is truly someone out there looking out for all of us lesser mortals.

Eureka moment - What works for others may or may not work for you!

Friday, July 17th, 2009

About 20 days ago, I spotted a rat in my office. I was quite aghast at the sight of it. Immediately, I delegated the task of capturing it to my watchman. He tried the classic rat poison - a powder which he mixed with coriander. The next morning, we saw the mixture strewn all over - we knew it had tasted it and were happy.

I saw the rat in the evening. It fooled us.

I called the watchman immediately and sent him to buy a rat trap. Various elders of the apartment block where I have my office recommended we use potato or prawns as bait. The rat was still alive.

I realized that even after 5 days it was still alive. I had to get involved now. I asked the grocer next door. It was extremely sweet of him to offer me his tube of Rat Poison paste which I innovatively spread it on cheese balls and topped it with tomato sauce. It looked yum. I felt a deep peace with in. The very fact that I am using a product that has been used and found effective increased my confidence exponentially. The next morning, the food was eaten. In the afternoon, the rat came out to say Hi again

I was absolutely frustrated now. It had this irritating habit of coming close to my table when I was at my laptop esp. around 3-4 pm. I was unable to concentrate. I had to find a solution. I did some research on the internet and realized that there are glue traps. I called for professional help and the next day the pest control guy checked my godown and placed the traps in strategic locations. In one hour - the rat was stuck on the board. I was elated and called my watchman to throw it out.

I was absolutely elated and my joy knew no bounds. I was at last happy that I could work on my own at my desk without any interference.

As a philosophical person, I decided to meditate on the reasons why I was faced with this particular problem and its significance at this point in my life.

Since the rat infested my office, it was my primary responsibility to get rid of it. By delegating it to my watchman, I just ran away from that responsibility.

Ignorance is not bliss.

I assumed that my watchman was an expert just because he was old.

Age & experience do not necessarily represent expertise.

Seeking help from my grocer - I relied on someone else’s expertise - again!

What works for others may or may not work for you

By seeking professional help both from the internet and in person - finally I did the right thing and the rat was caught in just 1 hour after failed attempts in 12 days.

I learnt that every problem has a unique solution. We can solve it in the shortest possible time using the resources we already have - Intelligence. All we need on our part is Initiative. Initiative to take one step towards the solution after taking the responsibility.

As my watchman rightly said - Madam apna dimaag choohe ke dimaag se jyaada istemal karna chahiye na!!!

The mouse was conditioned to respond to known methods of trapping. But the first new method it saw - it got trapped. Since we have the divine gift of intelligence every problem that you are unable to solve is like the rat - we are trying to solve it in our conditioned selves and not by our conscious selves.

Are you truly using your intelligence to solve all the problems in your life and make it beautiful one? Or are you using it in a conditioned manner - going again and again in vicious cycles? Be alert and be conscious.

Eureka moment - Healing It’s a matter of your free will

Monday, July 6th, 2009

The word chronic usually sends people into a panic. From panic to a forceful acceptance that “I have a chronic problem or a chronic ailment and there is nothing that I can do about it.” It’s usually this acceptance that leads to it being chronic and not because it’s inherently “incurable”. The incurability is in your mind. If you have not only attracted it in your life but also safe guarded it in the deepest “lockers” of your mind - can anyone else but you be blamed for your situation?

Any problem or ailment is due to energy blocks. Energy blocks that can be “de blocked” or released through Chakra cleansing and energizing. Most people don’t try healing for so many reasons.

  • 1.When I know that I cannot be cured, why should I try anything else?
  • 2.I have tried so many therapies - nothing has worked - how can one be sure that healing will work?
  • 3.It’s not scientific.

The first two relate to the mind esp. the subconscious mind. When you are convinced that nothing can cure you - can anything that has a really good chance of curing you - really help you - when your mind rejects it again and again? If you close your eyes and say its night even when its day - whose fault is it? If you don’t love yourself enough to give yourself another chance - to try UNTIL you succeed and not try for a pre determined time frame - is it really “your fate” or “you” who is the cause for your chronic ailment that continues to define who you are?

Coming to the third and the most common reason. There are many people who believe that Chakras and Meridians (Nadis) don’t exist because they have not been scientifically proven. The best proof is experience. Ones own. Do we really need to rely on instruments and their abilities to prove something that we can experience directly?

Also, I don’t understand this argument cynics and skeptics use about Science. Quantum Physics says everything in the world is matter and energy. It also says that matter is a form of energy. When everything finally boils down to energy, then problems and ailments are energy blocks or bad energy right? So how can energy healing not help in solving any problem and hence chronic problems?

The issue with healing does not end with the above reasons. There is something beyond these. It has something to do with the healer. The absence of certified standards in healing modalities (both in education and professional practice) is the main reason for mistrust in India. The presence of quacks and the absence of a system to punish them is another.

There are accredited systems in US where healers esp. Reiki practitioners work in hospitals where integrated medicine is followed. The west has found a blend between its own western science and our eastern methodologies. Europe is starting to implement integrated medicine.

It’s us Indians, who are yet to find a balance - a balance between yin and yang. I am sure Indians will ape the west to implement integrated medicine in the next decade. Just like fashion trends have a lag between the West and India, health trends also seem to follow a similar pattern!

Would you want to wait for the integration to begin in India for you to start leading a wholesome life or do you want to take that step now? It’s a matter of your free will

Eureka Moment - Michael Jackson, Are you on the right track to be wealthy?

Thursday, July 2nd, 2009

After reading the Michael Jackson reports, there was a gloom. A gloom that led to thinking about riches, money & wealth that finally led to some insights! Read on.

MJ died poor and unhappy even after all the money and fame. Is there something that we can learn from his life? He was rich and famous - but not wealthy. He lacked inner strength & hence the wellbeing that comes with strength.

There is a difference between being rich and being wealthy. Being rich is depends on the quantity of money while being wealthy depends on the qualities of the person who has earned the money. Wealth has no connection to the quantity of money or riches.

If you are rich yet unhappy and the other poor and unhappy - is there any use or value of your riches in your life? If your riches have not led to an increased state of happiness, what value addition have these riches made in your life? Is it just to show off to others and feel superior? Is it just to save for the future generation? And just to buy better cars and houses?

STOP and ASK yourself - Are you rich & wealthy or just rich?

How do you know whether you are wealthy or not? There is only one parameter.

Being wealthy - makes you happy. Happy about the money you have made. Happy about the way you have spent it and they way you have saved it. If you are rich and not happy - you are not wealthy!

To be wealthy - the person who is in charge of the riches - needs to be healthy - from within. One must be prudent enough to save, extravagant enough to buy what one desires and happy enough to enjoy. Enjoy life. Not just show off the means of enjoyment. Enjoy from within. To have happiness from within.

All of us have 4 planes or aspects within ourselves. The Physical - related to our bodies, material aspects, possessions etc. The Mental - related to our thoughts & intelligence. The Emotional - Related to feelings and the last The Spiritual - which is the mother plane of the rest.

Being wealthy requires progress on the all the 3 planes i.e. Physical, Mental and Emotional leading to a progress in the spiritual. Most of us make the mistake of progressing on just the Physical plane - leading to imbalances that can blow us apart later on!

Are you investing in all the 3 planes? Has your extra money bought you extra time - time that can be invested in progressing in the mental and emotional planes?

Well, your wealth portfolio when you die will depend on how you invest your money to buy more time and use that time to invest in your self! Make the right moves - Get wealthy!

Are you on the right track to be wealthy?
