Bandra is a hot destination for pubs and bars, where you can get some of the best cocktails. Obviously, a cocktail is a neat replacement for a hard drink, tastes much better and won’t cause a hangover, unless you over drink. There are numerous places in Bandra that serve cocktails and most of these places are constantly raking up a new swig.  

There’s Mumbai Times Cafe, Temptation, Hawaiian Shack, Zenzi’s, Toto’s Garage, Kabbana, Boat Club, Poison Lounge Bar, Fluid, Trafalgar, Pause, Atrium Lounge and many, many more. Cocktails normally go well with hors d’oeuvres, sometimes so much that you miss out on the main meal. Some of these pubs also have dance floors where you can collect with friends and go overboard. At most places in Bandra you have all office goers flooding these bars and pubs and staying on till the wee hours of the mornings.  

Try these simple cocktail recipes; you can even make them at home. 

Ship Special

Juice of 2 oranges

1 peach schnapps

1 small peg rum

Splash of grenadine 

Mix all the ingredients in a cocktail mixer and serve over ice.  

Tequila Sunrise

Ingredients:

4 oz orange juice

2 oz tequila

1/2 oz grenadine

orange slice for garnish

maraschino cherry for garnish

Preparation:

Pour the tequila and the orange juice into a highball glass with ice cubes.

Stir.

Slowly pour the grenadine around the inside edge of the glass, it will sink and slowly rise to mix with the other ingredients naturally.

Garnish with the orange slice and cherry. 

It’s important not to get drunk especially if you have to drive back. These recipes are good if you stop at two and make sure you’re munching on something so that there’s no acidity.  

Anchovy Swiss Toast to go with the cocktails.

Ingredients:

2 cups grated Swiss cheese

2 ounces chopped anchovies

1 tablespoon chopped chives

1 tsp dill weed

1 tablespoon mayonnaise

1 tablespoon lemon juice

1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper

20 slices miniature rye bread 

Preparation:

Preheat broiler.

Mix Swiss cheese, anchovies, chives, dill weed, mayonnaise, lemon juice, and black pepper until well combined.

Spread mixture evenly on rye bread rounds. Broil for 2 to 3 minutes until lightly browned and hot.

Mocktails are exciting, fruity concoctions that contain no alcohol and go with the appetizers and the main dish that you order. There are old mocktails and some new one doing the rounds. Mocktails are a heady mix of flavours that are sure to leave you asking for more. The Atrium Lounge at Bandra’s Taj Land’s End has some delectable mocktails that will spin you around. Lite House at Koliwada also serves some of the best sea food accompanied with the best mocktails in Bandra, and that too really cheap. Swigs at Parle International is a good place to spoil those taste buds with a mocktail or two.  

You can serve a mocktail by frosting the glass. You can also moisten the edge with water, lemon, lime or orange. Dip the glass in a dish filled with the garnish, sugar, salt, coconut or finely ground coffee. Some cocktail frosters come in flavours such as lemon, apple and cranberry. You can also swirl chocolate or strawberry syrup around the insides of the glass.  

Recipes: 

1.Red Berry Mocktail

500gms strawberries

½ cup cranberry juice

5 cups lemonade 

Blend the strawberries and cranberry juice in a blender. Pour the mixture into 4 tall glasses and top with lemonade.

2. Flamingo

100 ml cranberry juice

50ml pineapple juice

15 ml lemon juice

50 ml soda water 

Pour all the juices into a shaker and shake with ice. Strain into a glass and top up with soda. Garnish with lime.  

So, the next time you have to entertain guests who avoid alcohol, you can always serve up these exciting mocktails.
