Job Description of the Morgan Stanley Job
The Role
The role is called “Fixed Income IT Operations Engineer - FID-ITOPS”. Operational engineering includes everything necessary to transform software into a tool that is available to end-users for production purposes. Development teams write the software, operations teams like ours do everything else. Typical tasks include:
• configuring and deploying hardware and software into the production environment
• ensuring stability of hardware, system software and application software
• designing and implementing high availability and disaster recovery plans
• monitoring health and performance of hardware and software
• troubleshooting production outages
• designing, deploying and maintaining Autosys jobs and other batch processes
• detecting, investigating and remediating database issues
• verifying correctness of data delivered to dependent systems
• responding to user inquiries in a timely manner
The Business
The business units serviced by FID IT Ops are primarily involved in fixed income products, our coverage of equities, foreign exchange and other non-derivative areas is increasing. We also service the firm’s Prime Brokerage division. At times like the present, when credit quality of counterparties is a concern, timely and accurate processing of derivative trades is critically important. MARKET RISK, current exposure and potential exposure numbers of counterparty needs to be calculated in a timely manner. Both internal risk managers and external clients depend on the data we produce every day
