Science fiction and witchcraft seem to be the order of the day as the top 10 grossing films turned out to be the best shows in science fiction. These were the top running and grossing films of 2009. Warner Brother’s Harry Potter and the Half blood Prince was the top earner in the category followed by 20th Century Fox’s Ice Age, Dawn of the Dinosaurs.
The third film in the category of best motion picture turned out to be Paramount’s Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. In this movie there is an epic struggle between super robots that are good and evil, and to reinforce the Christmas spirit, good triumphs over evil.
Columbia Picture’s 2012 harks back to the Mayan civilization that predicted the end of the world on December 12 2012. Up, from Disney came in next in the list, a delightful animation story that brings out the best in the audience.
The Twilight Saga: New Moon came in the fifth position of the best grosser in the US list of top 10 movies. Columbia Picture’s Angels and Demons was the next top grosser in the list, this being Dan Brown’s tale of missing links in the great Catholic backdrop of evil and wrongdoing.
Warner Brother’s Hangover came in next followed by Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian and Paramount’s Star Trek came in the last ten. Slumdog Millionaire was the best movie at the Golden Globes, followed by awards at the BAFTA film festival, the 81st Academy Awards and the Writer’s Guild of America Awards. Some other notable releases of the year were Invictus, Brothers, Everybody’s Fine, Michael Jackson’s This is it, Amelia, Love Happens and Inglorious Basterds.
