Bandra’s Poison Nightclub | Poison Nightclub faces trouble before opening

Poison Nightclub in trouble before opening - A Section Of Bandra Locals Protests Against Project, Plans To Move HC

Bollywood actor Shilpa Shettys husband, Raj Kundra, may have a problem on his hands. The London based entrepreneur has some serious opposition to contend with as he goes about launching a yet-tobe-named exclusive night club in the heart of a Bandra residential neighbourhood. Kundra and his partner, Prashant Gunjalkar, have taken the 12,000-square-foot property-where the popular nightclub Poison used to be- on a five-year lease. But a section of residents on the 27th Road, Bandra (W), have come together under the aegis of the Revival Citizens Group, an area locality management (ALM) group, to oppose the proposed project.

The residents, admittedly, unaware as to what the new project has in store for them but have already shot off letters to the BMC, the traffic police and the local police station , expressing their serious apprehensions . They admit they have based their apprehensions on what they were exposed to during the Poison days but say they will do whatever they can to escape a rerun of the torture .

But Kundras partner, Gunjalkar , felt that such vehement protest was extremely unfair even before they had opened. How can they be worried about what is going to happen even before we have started This is extremely unfair, he added. How can you base your fears on something that used to happen when we were not even in the picture Gunjalkar asked. He added he was in hospital and would comment after he got out of there. I cannot fathom why they are doing this to us, he said.

Residents, however, say they have had enough of nightclubs in their neighbourhood . How would you like a night club to open in your neighbourhood one of the residents asked. Do you know what it entails he said, adding there should be zoning laws to demarcate residential neighbourhoods from entertainment zones.

We are also going to the HC to ask what redressal we can expect from drunken brawls in the neighbourhood, hooliganism, total chaos on the parking front and the likely violation of noise-pollution rules in a residential area, RCG secretary Manuela Saldanha said. All these are not figments of our imagination. We have have gone through all this in the past and would not like a repeat, she added.

H-West ward assistant municipal commissioner S R Mulgudkar said: The licences for such clubs are issued keeping in mind all the factors. Ill personally look into the matter and ensure that no violations are recorded.
