Interview Tips | 5 Tips to prepare for Campus Placement Interviews
This is the time of the year when you are all set to leave college and anxiously waiting for your campus placement. Of course you college has organized employers for on-campus interviews and the best part is you get to go through this difficult task in your college itself. But still, there is a lot anxiety for all.
Here are a few tips to help you prepare for the upcoming campus interviews in a systematic manner.
1) Impressive resume
Your resume must be clear. Do not give unnecessary information in fancy fonts and do not use colours. While you keep your text crisp by editing out unnecessary words do remember to highlighting your strengths. Always give the information about yourself which will really help the employer take you.
Right words selection is very impressive. Eg ‘Was captain of my college Basketball team for University level tournaments’, you may say ‘Led the college Basketball team for the University level tournaments’.
Use point format to highlight Projects, training and internships specifying your contribution. Don’t make it more than one sentence and do mention what you achieved.
Do highlight your extracurricular activities where you excelled. Also take feedback from seniors.
2) Know the Companies and Jobs on offer
Get all the information of companies visiting the campus for the interviews. Also find out their selection process and the job description on offer. There is a chance that some companies may cancel their visits at the last minute and some new ones may be roped in. Keep track of these changes as they happen, they might prove to be important.
3) Master the possible interview questions
The very common questions asked in interviews are - what are your strengths and weaknesses ? What is your career goals? How do you get motivated ? What skills do you have besides the degree ? You should be very prepared to face these questions confidently.
Discuss these answers with some exert to know their opinion and do make changes accordingly.
4) Prepare well for the Written Test and Group Discussion
Collect enough information from the net regarding the company - history, locations, main products/services, and major news story in the past two to three months. Also read about the industry-major players, industry history, major challenges, trends and future direction companies. Prepare seriously for the written test. Form a GD practice group along with some serious fellow students and practice enough. Always remember not to be too aggressive in GD but make your point loud and clear. So work hard on getting the balance right for the GD. Use facts and awareness. Read newspapers, magazines and watch news basically, know the world around you.
5) Dress is very important
Dress carefully for the interview. Do not much worry about whats the latest fashion but t helps to be conservative. Go for plain white or light blue well-fitted full sleeve shirts, black trousers and plain black leather shoes. If you can carry a tie well and if the weather permits then only go for simple tie.
For women a light-coloured formal shirt and black trousers or a simple, light-coloured saree or salwar suit is good enough. Avoid loud designs, bold colours and indecent clothing. Also make a neat folder of all your educational/ non-educational certificates including Class X and Class XII marksheets and other relevant certificates.
