How deep can you go?
Depth is a trait in a person that is extremely essential for success and most importantly for individual, creative and social satisfaction. How deep are you? Are you honest, creative, spontaneous, natural? Are you good at your job? According to Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, it is the highest trait in a person to experience or desire peace, a questioning mind, charity, kindness and to enquire about the purpose of life. In many ways this matches with Vedantic thoughts of the fact that the higher the person, the deeper he gets.
In society, unfortunately, we see many people who have everything but depth and character. Many people think that a girl gets educated only to improve her ranking in the marriage market. Many people think that scholars or ideologists are after something only to feed their egos, but it could be that they are after some insatiable, unattainable quest.
A person with depth is a good social resource and an anchor to many floating souls and rudderless beings.
Depth adds dimension to your personality. Your words carry weight, you get clarity in your thoughts, you weigh the pros and cons before making any decision, but you have to work very hard at getting depth in not only your profession, but also your character.
Depth adds a feeling of certainty in your life. After having read several books, management and fiction alike, I can say with confidence, that all these years of striving have added depth to my character.
People with character and depth have to pass several tests that will reinforce their belief in themselves. The weak ones will give way and fail. If you have a strong character, and you are tested, you will not give in to stealing, lying, cheating, instead your ideas and values will become strengthened.
Ultimately, it is up to you to determine how deep you’ll go.
