26 11 Mumbai Terror Attacks | Hatred, The driving force!
26/11/09 - Today is the first anniversary of the terrorist attacks, and Mumbai has a lot to ponder over. There is growing inequality between people. Most people are not happy with the circumstances, created by themselves, they are in, and most importantly, hate has become the driving force for people to succeed. I think that is the worst a decrepit system like Capitalism, with all its flaws can do, bring out the be(a)st in men.
Why and since when did we become so full of hate, jealousy, anger and viciousness? Do words like kindness, empathy, love, equality, peace etc have any meaning any more? Why is it that my family and friends are the worst affected by my success? Why is it that with every step I take ahead, I leave behind a hundred broken hearts?
We must face up to reality and deal with the psychological aspect of life. Even the best amongst us lack survival skills and give in to the lure of corruption, falsitude, greed, anger, jealousy et al. Could it be that the hatred I have for another person, is actually hatred for a certain ugly aspect of myself?
There are many messages that memories of 26/11 evoke. That we can’t live in peace with our neighbours. That India’s desire to emerge a superpower is going to be met with stiff resilience from all corners of the world, and that, at the end of the day, hatred reigns supreme amongst men and beast alike. I shudder to think what the consequences of such a state may be.
Why is it that the good have to suffer so much? Why does god make the bad people so powerful? Is it true that sinners are overtaking the righteous in this madcap world? These and other things require our urgent attention.
37 years into my life, and I stand at crossroads, waiting to choose between the good, the bad, and the ugly. Why is it that people of character have such a grueling time in the world? We learn in school to be good human beings, but live life the exact opposite outside the school premises. Why?
