MBA Aspirants
Although it’s a very good idea to pursue an MBA from the top notch institutes of India and abroad, if you’re already a Masters and have work experience, it’s not such a bad idea to go for a ‘lesser’ institute. Most MBAs in Media Management, like those of MICA and Symbiosis, come at a huge price to pay, and thus are not affordable to the common man.
They also don’t award scholarships or incentives for scholars, who have to pursue their degree from their own personal funding. In such a case, it is wise to settle for a lower level MBA, as you have your budget in place and you also get the degree. In India today, anyway, people from regional areas and villages are given priority over city bred professionals, so what’s the use in being equipped when you don’t stand a chance in the selection process anyway?
It sounds all too good to be on the ranks of hifi institutes, but what price does the individual have to pay? The drop out and attrition rates are very high for these colleges, which means that the fees you pay will never be refunded and you also don’t get the degree. I think it’s wise to step out of the competitive streak and for once settle for something in which you are comfortable instead of constantly rubbing yourself up the wrong way, which is what these top notch institutes make you do. Since when did self mortification become fashionable?
Challenges are good, but not at the cost of your life, sanity and possessions. You can’t put everything to ransom, just for another degree! And so, for individuals who are already achievers and don’t need any other embellishment, it’s perfectly sane to settle for second best. Unfortunately, in India and abroad, there are not many choices you can make in your search for the perfect MBA. The main MBAs are Finance, HR, Marketing, Operations and International Business, which offer no scope for people in the Humanities and Media to upgrade their skills. There are just 2 or 3 colleges in India that have Media Management specializations. If I’m a journalist or writer, why should I be compelled to change my area of specialization, just to fit into the corporate set up?
Having said that, I would also like to reiterate that if you’re only a plain graduate, despite having work experience, you should then only look for top notch MBAs.
