Attitude is all that there is!
Speaking of cricket, even in our personal lives, we keep waiting for things to happen, instead of taking the initiative to do things, and seek change. All of us specially, in our families and friends always live up to the ‘Ram Jaane’ attitude. But that is not always correct. Resigning ourselves to destiny and the powers of God, always giving in to fate, is really not the right attitude to have.
We must be doers and thinking actors. If one thing doesn’t work, we must try new ways. Failures shouldn’t mar our attempts, but embolden us to perform with even greater determination.
But taking the easy way out, resigning ourselves to higher powers and always seeking the easy way out, are some of the ill effects of our older generations and the traditions that we so proudly flaunt.
Unless you stand up for what is right, unless you openly and proactively take a stand against wrongdoing, you will not be able to bring out the best in you. Even in our ancient texts, it is said that working on action or ‘purushartha’ can bring about changes to the most testing destiny even of the most unworthy ‘prarabdha’. That means that with your actions and thoughts, you can change even the decree of God instead of resigning yourself to the cruel hands of destiny.
If you look at the Australian team, they are fighters, they work hard and although they are not egoists, they make individual and team decisions based on which they determine loss and failure. But we never work on ourselves. We believe in God, given in to his ‘cruel’ and sadistic ways and always emerge losers. I am not saying to turn atheists, but to have a lowly way of looking at things, in Hindu parlance, called ‘daridra’, is really the lot of losers. When will we emerge out of our shells as world beaters?
