Do you really need that much?
Most scholars and people of the highest class are also the most greedy individuals, and it becomes very hard to satisfy their wants and desires. If we go by Gandhi’s philosophy of ‘There is enough for everyone’s needs, but not enough for one man’s greed’, we all would be a lot better off. We all have high goals and we love to challenge ourselves, but if we look at the bigger picture, there is really not enough in this world to satisfy everyone’s egos. No wonder then, that we even put our environment in danger. We don’t even know when healthy competition gives way to unhealthy strategies.
If you’re content, at peace with yourself, you won’t have to keep feeding yourself with greater achievements. The price we pay for our endeavours is often too high, no wonder we have so many suicides, mental illnesses and all kinds of diseases that afflict us constantly.
We all know it takes a lot to be world beaters and maintain that standard, but is the price we pay for that worth all the trouble? At the end of the day, if you’re a high achiever, but are planning how to jump down the valley, then you really haven’t lived your life the way it was meant to be and are setting the wrong trends.
The highest achievers are also the most lonely as they have no friends since everybody around them is jealous and insecure in their presence. Is this good? Or should an individual thrive in making others uncomfortable? I have nothing against perfection, but if you’re stepping on many toes in your march ahead, you’d better stop marching ahead altogether. How many people have to lose, face humiliation and even die for one man’s supremacy? It’s foolish to give vent to a single person’s ambitions, at the cost of others. Didn’t we decry Hitler? Don’t we hate Stalin? Obviously, the stupendous success of a single person is a wrong way ahead. And just as ambitions of individuals have been crushed in the past, we must force individuals not to be greedy, but content individuals, at peace with their environment and those around.
