It’s only in the Indian perspective that females are made not only to perform unrealistically at work but also deal with illicit relationship proposals at the work place. It’s an organized crime in which the entire department singles out a single female because she’s the love interest of a co-employee or a boss.
Many times you see that women are subjected to cruel treatment if they reject the advances of men and others join in the ill treatment of such women. This happens not only at the individual level but groups of people join in to make the life of such a woman hell. Just imagine the pain a woman has to got through, fighting for her dignity and self respect.
Policies and politics that deal with the harassment of women and exploitation should be eradicated and women should get a free, safe and reasonably good environment to work.
Men should realize that women are out to make a living and prove their mettle in the corporate world and not to look for potential partners. Many times women have to deal with lusty, corrupt bosses and colleagues, who refuse to let them have their due.
If a woman says no to a relationship, her views should be respected and she should not be compelled to change her stand. Many women in India can’t work alone as they always have to deal with relationship problems and pile on bosses.
I have personally been a victim of such crimes of passion not once but many times over. Professional workers must realize that the workplace is a place where you make your living and not a social hangout to build relationships. Your boss and company don’t pay you for being attractive and indulging in romance, but for the skills you bring to the table.
In that light, office romances are indeed an unnecessary burden to deal with, especially if you’re the uninterested party. A lot of times romance at the workplace happens at the discomfort and distraction of coworkers, and is just a means of distraction for the serious workers and should be discouraged.
