Spiritual pursuits
Many people are of the belief that spiritual pursuits and material goals can’t be reconciled, but the truth is that both of them have to be merged to find the right balance in a human being’s life.
The common perception is that a person who is spiritual is essentially a failure and thus takes to the spiritual world having been dejected and disillusioned from the world. But nothing can be further from the truth. A person who is only materialistic will not be happy but a person who is only spiritual will be able to cruise through the hardships of life.
The spiritual world, especially in India, offers some time tested wisdom to deal with the vagaries of life and the uncertainty but finality of death. Many people look down upon those who pray and those who lead a pious existence. But such people who make such hasty conclusions are rather badly informed.
Spiritual training helps a person to meet with life’s ups and downs squarely and those who don’t believe in this are constantly looking for gratification from ethereal means. Nothing in this life and world is permanent, so we must stop attaching value to things that don’t last. Fame, wealth, a good physique, a good income are not ends but means and can be fleeting. We make a mistake in observing them to be the sources of our happiness and give them undue importance. But the truth is that self enquiry and the realization that the world and its creatures and features are just a means but not the end to a life well lived, are the necessary evils that constant failures and dejections teach us.
For the right evolution in our lives, we must learn to balance the spiritual and the material if we are to be at peace with ourselves. Only then will the real teaching and learning take place. Are you ready to open up?
