Cricket: The heartbeat of the nation!

Sunday’s ODI at Baroda proved to be a one sided affair at the Reliance Stadium, but the hosts, ie India, did give the world champs, Australia, a run for their money. What is ailing Indian cricket? Why can’t the Indian stalwarts of the game stand the tests that they’ve been put through?

Why does Sachin always underscore and the more the team relies on him, the more he underperforms. Perhaps our expectations from the cricketing team are sky high. Perhaps we can never be world beaters. But at least we realize and we should realize what goes into making a world beating team. It takes years of hard work, a good allover administrative team comprising of an efficient coach and administrators, good and reasonable selectors and a fit and energetic team.

But we are neither. Neither do have a good team, nor do we have good selectors and worst of all, our seniors are overrated and the juniors have unrealistic ambitions.

So many times our stars in the team like Tendulkar and Dravid have failed to keep up whereas the Australian seniors continue to perform at their level best. Is a younger team the answer? Or does even experience and wisdom count?

After so many experiments and great losses, we should come to the conclusion that Indian cricket is the classic case of too many cooks spoiling the broth. And we don’t even have world class infrastructure, then how can we be world beaters?

Creating a world team is not rocket science and least people like Kapil Dev, Sunil Gavaskar, Lalit Modi and the rest of them can do is make some coherent moves. At this rate we will always be second best and keep relying on luck to save the day for us.
