Introduction to UPSC IFS Exam:
The Indian government has three prestigious branches of All India government service that is the Indian Administrative Service, the Indian Police Service and the India Forest Service. The UPSC recruits the officers and they get to serve both the state as well as the Central government. This service is almost similar to that of the IAS and IPS.
The exam is conducted every year on the second Saturday in July. The number of vacancies every year is about 30 to 35 to take care of the vast forest reserve areas of India.
Eligibility for UPSC IFS Exam:
The Eligibility criteria are based on 4 parameters. These are:
Nationality wherein a person must be an Indian National or a refugee of Tibet or a person of Indian origin but living in Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries and Uganda.
The candidate must be between the ages of 21 and 30 on the date of the exam. There are age limit relaxations available for certain sections of the society.
The minimum educational qualifications should be a Bachelor’s Degree in at least one of the subjects such as Animal Husbandry, Veterinary Science, Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry.
A candidate is allowed only four attempts at the exam. This is not applicable in the case of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe candidates. If the candidate appears for a test then it will be counted as one attempt by the candidate.
How to Apply for UPSC IFS Exam:
One needs to apply for this examination by way of an application form that can be procured from any of the post offices in India.
The filled out application needs to be sent by post or courier or handed over personally to the Secretary, UPSC at New Delhi.
Selection Process and Syllabusfor UPSC IFS Exam:
There is a written exam conducted. This written test is for six papers of 1400 marks. Candidates who clear the written test can go for an interview which is of 300 marks.
The papers for the written tests are:
Paper I General English 300 marks
Paper II General Knowledge 300 marks
Paper III, Paper IV, Paper V, Paper VI - Any two subjects to be selected from the list of the optional subjects. Each subject will have two papers. 200 marks per paper Total Marks o f1400 marks
The exam is a very tough and serious one. Only 1% out of all the candidates who appear for this exam is called for the interview. Hence, it is vital that one prepares well for this extremely competitive and cutting edge test.
Job Prospects / Salary UPSC IFS Exam:
The ranks and salaries as per the fifth pay commission is
Deputy conservator of Forests Rs 14,300 to 18,300
Conservator of Forests Rs 16,400 to 20,000
Chief Conservator of Forests Rs 18,400 to 22,400
The Principal Chief Conservator of Forests Rs 24,050 to 26,000
