Mumbai Colleges - Ragging the ultimate offence!
Ragging in professional colleges and institutions should be banned and the punishment meted out to ragging offenders should be strict. Often children, who have young, fresh and impressionable minds, lose out a lot at the time of ragging. A congenial introduction is a lot better than the public display of hatred.
Most seniors, on ragging days, treat their juniors with disrespect and the treatment the students get on the first or second day is, in one word, pathetic. Many students give in to suicide when the ragging gets too personal or physical. Even institutions like the IITs and IIMs are not bereft of ragging. Ragging takes place most in regional areas but is also present in urban colleges.
Contrary to the popular belief that ragging emboldens the suspect, the truth is that ragging leaves an indelible mark on the psyche of the student. Instead of getting bolder and more social, victims of ragging usually end up reclusive and, according to some doctors, also develop mental and psychological disorders.

Ragging, in all its forms, should be banned. This type of thing happens only in India. In American and European institutions, ragging is not only absent, it is decried and abolished.
Although they have other forms of crime like racism and apartheid, ragging in foreign colleges, especially between higher and junior students is unheard of.
Instead of ragging, the teachers and professors should come out with better ideas like a friendship day to avoid ragging. Also, in most institutions, ragging is not stopped by the teachers and principals and normally goes unnoticed. This is blasphemous. Teachers should proactively stop miscreants from ragging and disturbing the tranquility of the campus.
