Progress- Real or fake?
As we go on with our daily lives, in the pursuit of material pleasures and of aggrandizement, little do we realize the importance of stability and contentment.
Often, in our blind chase of happiness, we fail to see the trap laid out for us. We all believe that we are progressing in the right direction and that fate has something better in store for us, but is this really the case? So often people who climb up the ladder of success are actually going backwards. Despite wholesome education and a professional job, we tend to harbour regressive mindsets, pride, prejudice and an uncanny ability to invite trouble.
Is this really progress? In our unbridled pursuit of power, fame and glory, we often get blinded by ambition and instead of living happy, contented lives, make a mess out of them. Most of us are trapped by debt and if we actually care to look, every step forward is actually two steps behind. It is a universal law that happiness and material pursuits do not go hand in hand, so why this hunger for more?
Most of us who are striving for more will burnout, be stalled or even die seeking more appeasement. Haven’t you seen so many bright students end their lives tragically? Aren’t businesses offering loans and a supposedly better lifestyle, just money making schemes?
Isn’t our path to progress really an aberration than a reality? I am beginning to have doubts as I feel I was better off without all this unwanted trouble and so-called progress.
Is our struggle for progress at any cost justified? Is it achievable? Can mere mortals actually bring about socio-economic change in their life-spans? I doubt it. With every step forward, there are more hurdles and obstacles facing us, until we retreat our footsteps and end up in oblivion. This path of progress is really turning out to be as transitory as it can. As it turns out, there are no real solutions on this way, only more trouble and unending sorrow.
