The confusion among students about the online admissions process to junior colleges after the first merit list was published has left thousands of seats vacant in the general category. This has brightened the chances of students in the second merit list. Only 1.55 lakh seats have been filled so far.
About 23,526 seats are vacant in the special categories. However, 23,000 students were allotted to colleges in both the streams they opted for and when they secure one seat, the rest will go vacant.
A lot of seats have also been left vacant after several students were denied admissions because they failed to produce the correct certificates.
For students to remain in the system for the second round, they must secure admissions in whichever college they have been allotted. 50 per cent of the total minority seats from various colleges in the city have also been added to the general pool of seats for the second list.
