Mumbai Marathon - Mumbai Marathon 2010 the countdown has begun
The Mumbai marathon is still quite far almost more than six months away, the countdown has already begun for the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon, to be held on January 17, 2010.
Well it promises to be bigger and better this time than before. In spite of the recession, Asias richest Mumbai Marathon event has just got richer, with an enhanced prize money of $310,000, an increase of $60,000 from 2009.
The winners will now get $35,000, as compared to $31,000 in 2009. Event promoters are hoping the enhanced prize money will get bigger names to participate, thereby making the Mumbai Marathon more attractive and competitive. Indian runners also have more reasons to be happy, as the winners prize has been more than doubled. Full marathon Indian winner will now win $6000, as compared to $2500 for in 2009 Mumbai marathon.
This year Mumbai marathon route might include the newly opened Bandra-Worli Sealink. The details are being worked out as the Mumbai marathon organizers have to ensure the Mumbai marathon route length of 42.195 kilometers. Well including Bandra Worli Sea Link will surely add to the profile of the race provided the runners are exempted from paying the toll!
Registrations are already open to fill up the 36,000 running places, an increase of 350 places from last year. The last date for entries is August 18, or till the running places are full, whichever is earlier.
