NSG, National Security Guards- Mumbai’s own watchdogs!
Mumbai has got its own NSG unit and none other than the Union Home Minister, P Chidambaram was here to inaugurate it. So, no matter how strong the threat from the terrorists, now Mumbai has its own NSG unit at Marol, Andheri. The State, after the 26/11 attacks, allotted 23 acres of land for the development of the hub, which is now a reality for the citizens of Mumbai.
And with their ultra-sophisticated technology, the NSG members will fight really hard for the people of Mumbai. So, now we have 250 commandos stationed in Mumbai who will respond to any emergency in less than thirty minutes.
The State Police are certainly not enough for a populous city like Mumbai, and the NSG members are a welcome relief. Having only a single station in Haryana previously, the NSG is now supposed to have 1,080 men for its four units to come up in the country.
The other three units will be at Chennai, Kolkata and Hyderabad.
The NSG commandos will have special training in all kinds of combat and are also adept at operational encounters. Remember the day when the militants were roughed up at all the three places ie Nariman House, The Hilton Towers and The Taj Mahal? Only the NSG units could have had the guts to face such a deadly enemy. So, Mumbais can be wary of any suspicious activities going on in their vicinities.
More than the enemy outside, we must fear all those Indians who became familiar and friendly with the militants and helped them to gain access into the hotels and buildings. I hope we have the ability to judge who is right and who wrong. Once is bad enough!
