Sea Rock goes to Ratan Tata
It’s great news that the Taj group of Hotels have taken over the Sea Rock hotel at Bandra. The deal was struck for a staggering Rs 680 crores. Sea Rock was lying vacant ever since the 1993 riots and it’s a good sign that it is going to be given a new lease of life. Now, Taj has 1,425 room capacities in 4 hotels across the city. The Sea Rock site is going to be revamped into an integrated complex consisting of hotel rooms, a convention centre and retail outlets of popular brands. Besides the 680 crores, Taj will also add an additional 500 crores to redo the site.
This is good news for suburbanites and tourists as well. Sea Rock is quite close to the airport and the sea-facing view awards it an enviable advantage. So, now, there will be two Taj Hotels at Bandra; The Taj Land’s End and Sea Rock. The Sea Rock will then be competing with the Hyatt at Santa Cruz and will have easily overtaken the Hyatt in the Western suburbs.
This deal comes at an opportune time with the Bandra-Worli sealink being set to open for commuters and citizens of the city as well. Bandra will certainly have a reason to be proud of. Sea Rock will undoubtedly leave an impressionable mark on tourists and Indians alike with its 5-star hospitality. I remember the unruly days when our family would head towards Bandra and check into the Sea Rock. The waves in the sea would lash at the hotel mischievously and there would be instances of mirth and merriment accompanied by great music, delectable cuisine and a fun-filled ambience. Those were truly the days, my friend.
Bandra is soon coming up as the most developed of our Western suburbs and the Sea Rock will stand testimony to this. With the ocean as a backdrop and reckless winds for accompaniment, we are surely looking forward to one more star in Bandra’s expansive sky.
