Multiplexes are back!
The strike of the multiplexes is over and the rift between the producers and multiplex owners has been resolved. On June 12th multiplexes will start screening movies again. But one fact remains that single screen theaters have a rough time in keeping up with the multiplexes. Regal theater has just shut shop and Sterling theater has converted into a multiplex. While it is true that tickets at multiplexes are a lot more expensive, the service, atmosphere and quality of sound and picture are a lot better at these screens. The top national multiplex chains in India are PVR, Big, Inox, Fame, Cinemax and Fun.
The four month issue has finally been resolved with multiplexes notching up 50, 42, 35 and 30 percent for the first, second, third and fourth week respectively for all movies and 52, 45, 38 and 30 percent respectively for all blockbuster movies that manage to collect more than Rs.17.5 crore only at the six leading multiplex chains.
This is a welcome change and we all are looking forward to head back to the multiplexes. The movies to be released next Friday are Big pictures-Vashu Bhagnani co-produced ‘Kal Kissne Dekha’ and Mithun Chakraborty starrer ‘Zor Laga Ke Haiya’.
Multiplexes are a good way to improve business in the film industry. It is certainly a step forward for the film industry. Although it is sad that single theaters are losing out in the rat race, the trend shows that if you don’t innovate and keep up with the times, you are most likely to miss the bus. I personally do endorse the multiplex culture as I feel it is progressive and forward looking. Plus it also creates a lot of jobs and sustenance for the general public. Film aficionados will have a reason to celebrate as the multiplexes will be back in business. The major advantage of multiplexes is that you don’t have to stand in long queues for tickets and you don’t have to miss any show. You can get the show at any time and also book tickets online and on the phone. So let’s welcome this step forward and look ahead to have a good, entertaining year before us.
