Spiritual Destinations- Food for the soul!
If you’re the intellectual kind and looking for answers to questions like ‘Who am I?’ and ‘What is my relation with the world?’, or ‘What role do I have to play?‘, then you can visit these places of rest and contemplation. Firstly, for ardent spiritual seekers there is the Ramana Ashram in the South, close to the Arunachala Hill, where Swami Ramana spent his entire life. You can read up the literature and also participate in the daily activities of the Ashramam and come back rejuvenated. Or closer still is the Sandeepany Sadhanalaya at Powai where you get Lord Jagadeeshwara’s ‘darshan’. The temple having being built by the Founder of the Chinmaya Mission, Swami Chinmayananda, an expert on the Upanishads and the Geeta, attempting to find a cure for the illnesses hitting mankind and society at large. Or if you’re keen to travel, you can visit the Chinmaya Centres at Siddhabari, where you get a beautiful serene shrine of Lord Rama and a giant statue of Lord Hanuman. You can also visit the Chinmaya Centre at Coimbatore, where the International School is and spend a few, quite days of contemplation there. If you’re an avid Indology follower, you can visit the CIF Centre at Ernakulam, Kerala, the birthplace of the Hindu scholar Adi Shankaracharya, now taken over by the Chinmaya Mission. Here you will get to meet scholars and saints and you can spend your entire time in the company of holy books and divine discussions.
At Igatpuri, you may want to visit the Vipassana Centre, where you have to live in silence and egolessness for a very long period of time. With strict timings and a ‘Sattvic’ diet, you will get to focus on your thoughts and fears and get rid of all the negativities within. You can also visit the Pondicherry Ashram of Aurobindo and spend your valuable time reading up the great literature that is available in the library. All these serene places are built in the best of venues; some of them are also great marvels of architecture. If you’re planning an all India tour don’t forget to visit the Krishnamurti Foundation Centres at Rishi Valley, Sahyadri, Adyar, Chennai, Bangalore and Benares where you will get to read up all the books on and by the great philosopher of the Modern Ages, J Krishnamurti, also known lovingly as JK. This will get you thinking and make you better, more sensitive person. You can also visit Rabindranath Tagore’s Shanti Niketan, and spend some days in meditation there and you will get to meet some of the best artists and musicians as students of the university there.
