50% water cut in Bandra, Khar, Santacruz on Thursday

Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced a 50% water cut in the western suburbs on April 16. The cut has been imposed due to the urgent repair work required on the Verawli reservoir.

The water cut will be effective in the eastern and western sides of the Bandra, Khar, Santacruz, Vile Parle and Andheri.

SS Korlekar, chief engineer of water supply department, said, “We have decided to undertake repair work between 11 pm to 5am on Wednesday night, which will result in low supply.”

“Since the past two days, there was problem at the Verawli reservoir, as the water level was not being maintained, resulting in shortage of 80 million litres per day (MLD) in the western suburbs on Monday,” said Anil Diggikar, additional municipal commissioner (projects).

“On the top of this, demand for water has increased by 20% due to rising temperatures,” he added. He also assured that there would be no water cuts during the summer season as the lakes are sufficiently full.
