The importance of failure
The greatest achievements by human beings over the period of time have been by trial and error. There is no set formula for success and all those who have an easy time climbing up the ladder of success are those who are least challenged. Some also resort to rigging the system to ensure that they don’t meet failure. As a system, capitalism has many flaws and the shameless pursuit of wealth and status are seen as lacking in many ways. For one, this kind of material gain leaves one poor to the inner, spiritual aspect of the being. If you notice, materialistically successfully people are often the most insensitive, with skewed beliefs and morally flawed personal value systems, leading to a twisted personality. It is not, therefore, important to succeed in the eyes of such lowly beings as they are caught in the vicious circle of success and failure, loss and gain and me and you. These are dire dualities to live with.
Failure comes to many people to help them realize, take a break and re-evaluate their personal belief systems. It’s probably a signal that the system is flawed, run by the worst minds in power. I personally find the standards that Indians stoop to in terms of competition and success, are the basest. In no country is there rampant corruption. The most illiterate are donning the highest posts in the corporate and governance sector and the most brainless are reigning over the equally less-informed masses.
Failure is a human aspect of life. It is an important reality-check that prevents you from creating unnecessarily high goals and unachievable targets. The Western world has come to grips with this phenomenon but Indians are sorely lacking in this sphere. Indians still dream of unattainable realms of existence, looking to escape the ungainly reality of the present day world. It’s a sad case to be alive to, but, things are slowly changing for the better. A practical, realistic approach is a sure way to get out of this mess. Indians have a hard time with their parents, teachers, friends and relatives, how can you expect them to shine in the social and corporate scenarios, where there are so many complex issues and even more complicated problems facing them? As I look around, it becomes even scarier to feel that we are a nation of losers. We have not mastered ourselves, our professions or our mind-sets, how then, can we become masters of the world?
