Special Show of movies at Mumbai Times Cafe Bandra

Indie movies in Berlin

For all you Indie movie buffs, there is a special show of movies from India to be held  at Mumbai Times Café, Bandra. These are short films especially brought to you by Tina Lange all the way from Germany. Tina Lange is the Director of the Asian Hot Shots Berlin Fest where movies by Asians all over the sub-continent are staged. These are films that have already been viewed in Germany at the fest and Ms Lange has graciously decided to screen them in Bandra.

This year’s winner is from the Phillipines entitled ‘God Only Knows’. Most of these films are by emerging and newcomers who have just made 1 or 2 movies before. Tina Lange, who is a renowned film buff, decided to do something about the sparse representation of Asian movies in Germany and started the Asian Hot Shots Berlin Fest, with the help of two other directors. She selects movies from India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka for the fest. She really loves Indian movies but complains that the quality of movies coming out of Bollywood is not even comparable to the rest of Asia. Especially lacking, in her view, are the departments of scriptwriting and character build up.

The films are going to be screened from 9:30 pm onwards at the Mumbai Times Café and entry is free. So, for all you aspiring film-makers, just hop out of You Tube and get some real film-making experience at this show. The movies are short films that just about last over 10 minutes. So, if you want to get into active film-making, you can always attend.

You also get a glimpse of what India means for people of foreign origins. So, when we actually sit back and relax, enjoying the pace of development, watching these movies will surely be a reality check for our perceptions. We believe that Indians are making movies at a faster, better rate than Hollywood or other countries, but the truth is that we have not mastered the art of film-making in a truly international sense. Get some real gyaan on the perceived reality of Indian cinema from the eyes of the outside world. It’s time you flew out of your cocoons!! And by the way, if you’re really planning to go, maybe you can call on 9820098790 for seats and bookings and to enquire about the location of the venue.

So happy viewing!!
