Last Date for Mhada Housing Scheme Extended
MHADA - Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority’s lottery for its 3,863 flats is delayed due to the huge response. Mhada had extended the last date of submission of forms by a week to enable more people to participate. Mhada has received 2.85 lakh applications and expects the total number of submissions to reach 4 lakh. Obviously, with 4 lakh plus application forms for the Mhada lottery scheme Mhada will need a few weeks to get ready for draw of the lots. Mhada had earlier planned to hold the lottery in April. The sale of Mhada lottery scheme forms began on January 12 and submissions on January 13. Due to the huge response, Mhada has extended the date of sale by a week and the last date of submission to February 7. Even on the weekend, there was an 800-metre long queue at some branches. While on Monday, nearly 19,000 people submitted their forms, on Tuesday, 24,281 people submitted the forms. The Mhada has sold 7,45,288 forms till now, including 4,735 forms on Tuesday.

Mhada also plans to put lists of people in reserved categories like SC/ST, government employees, MLA/MP and journalists on the website before the lottery takes place.
In a bid to maintain transparency, the housing department has decided to telecast the lottery live on television channels.
The high-end flats offered by MHADA at Versova and the flats in high, middle and lower income group flats in Pratiksha Nagar have got the maximum response. Pratiksha Nagar is in the heart of city and a central place. Most middle classs and upper middle class people prefer this location because it’s centrally located. There are a lot of applications for this place. The forms are yet to be scanned, but we are told that at least 15% to 20% of the applicants for the Versova flats are from the film industry.
