Introduction

Barrack Obama has been officially elected as the Democratic president of the USA and the whole world is celebrating. He got immense support from his countrymen and the Obama campaign has left an indelible mark on the history of the US. It is no mean feat for a black man to turn the tide and his appointment to the highest chair in America’s government is a harbinger of all things good to come. Like a beacon of light in these troubled times, Obama promises a way out of the economic meltdown, the war-like scenario in certain parts of the world and also improved bi-lateral ties between two economic and demographic superpowers viz America and India.

Obama’s policies

Obama plans to include an assortment of ministers in his cabinet and is absolutely determined to make his government work. Change has certainly set in and the old order has given way to the new. Obama’s policies will see a gradual but certain change in the economy of the most influential democracy of the world. He has taken up the challenge of reversing the downward trend and his troupe of ministers are working overtime to set the record straight. This is what all Americans would like to see and this what they’ll get. Obama is rooting for equal pay for women employees. He is planning to change the minimum wage of laborers and workers. Previously labor supervisors were not protected by labor laws, but he is going to change that. He is going to put a thorough check on CEO’s salaries. He aims to bring about an economy that thrives on a free market sensibility, economic security, innovation and is scheduled to provide an impetus to upward mobility. He has already pledged to reduce oil consumption in America, is working towards providing enough food for everybody. He will also make sure that each American citizen has health insurance and is trying hard to bring down insurance premiums. Instead of deporting illegal immigrants, he will provide them with citizenship and assure that skilled workers in the US are treated with respect. His foreign policies include an end to the war in Iraq. He aims to destroy the use and creation of weapons of mass destruction. Additionally, he also wants to put to rest the impending clashes with Al Qaeda and the Taliban. As far is India is concerned, he holds Indians in high esteem. He is partly Gandhian in his approach and ideology. He is working towards relaxing H1B visa rules, and is also working towards laxer immigration policies. He wants to forge closer strategic ties with India so that both countries can prosper together.

As if all this is not enough, he will also cut income tax rates for the middle classes in his country. Despite that, he is planning to rake in $700 billion in taxes. Also, the erstwhile Bush policies of climate change, stem cell research, and reproductive rights will give way to newer, better and more reformed and refined policies. Although he is a liberal Democrat at heart, his cabinet will be a coalition of ministers representing Republican ideologies also.

The conclusion

Although history has been created, we are all waiting for his policies and practices to work and see the light of day. Only then will we able to say, yes, we can!!!
