Mumbai Marathon – On 18th January Mumbai will run for a cause
Asia’s largest marathon - The Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon, is round the corner. The Mumbai Marathon is an international event held annually in January. This event was first staged in the year 2004.The race categories are Full Marathon (42.195 km), Half Marathon (21.097 km), Dream Run (6 km), Senior Citizens’ Run (4.3 km) and the Wheelchair Event (2.5 km).
Bandra residents along with other participants are gearing up for this big event. Even if we are not the professional runners and may not be able to complete the run, being there to cheer for them is what matters.
The marathon already has 36,000 registered participants. ‘Run for a Cause.’ is the theme for the marathon. They will have 113 NGO’s and charities as a part of United Way of Mumbai, the Official Charity Partner for the marathon. The Mumbai marathon also over the last five years has raised over Rs. 26 crore, benefiting more than 100 charities. Among all these charities Akanksha Foundation, Bandra’s Aseema Charitable Trust, Nalanda Foundation will be participating.
So in case if you aren’t participating, you may as well catch the action near Reclamation as the race will turn left towards Bandra Reclamation; and head straight till the end of the Bandra-Worli Sea-face link and then back toward Mahim Church Junction.
