Bandra, Khar and Santacruz residents get security savvy after terror attack
Members of over 50 housing societies from Khar, Bandra and Santa Cruz gathered at Sri Mumbadevi Vidya Mandir School in Khar to discuss security problems with the Khar police. However, the interaction was not only limited to residents and the police, but also inlcuded security guards from several buildings. In the wake of the recent terror attacks, members of Khar Residents Association (KRA) felt the need to do something in their own “Garden Pacts”. The result was a hall packed with over 200 people who discussed major security issues.
After the two-hour session, it was decided that every security guard in the area would be provided a whistle or a bell which would be blown or rung in a particular pattern. “The idea is to alert others in the building and in neighboring buildings in case of an emergency. When one guard blows the whistle, other guards and residents will take the cue and intimate the police immediately,” said Nitin Gadekar, secretary of KRA. “It would also make sense to give every guard a mobile phone with all the emergency numbers saved in it,” he added.
