Citizens Take Charge movement

Hundreds of citizens from Khar, Bandra, Santa Cruz and Juhu gathered at the St Joseph’s School auditorium on Sunday morning to transform “passive concern into active involvement” in the wake of the terror attacks.

They launched the Citizens Take Charge movement, which promises to “be the change that one wishes to see”.
These people decided not to play the blame game. They do not want to point fingers at the system that had failed or at politicians who were inept. “One thing good that has come about following the terror strikes is that we seem to have suddenly woken up from a deep slumber. But it is time to take charge, not as a spectator democracy but an active participatory democracy,” said Shyama Kulkarni, chairperson H-West Federation.

Kulkarni added that this was possible only if citizens exercised their right to vote. “Our duty is not over once we cast our vote. We have to follow it up constantly by using the Right to Information (RTI). We should remember that we are all shareholders of India and we need to protect the shares so that India does not fall,” she added.
