Christmas celebrations in Mumbai


Christmas is around the corner but the city not in a mood to celebrate. The horrific multiple terror strikes in Mumbai coupled with economic slowdown has impacted the Christmas party scene in Mumbai.

Companies are looking to cut costs at every opportunity possible and one such cost cutting measure being adopted by corporate is cancelling their year-end New Year and Christmas parties and celebrations.

Clubs say no to Christmas and New Year bash this year.

The clubs and gymkhanas of the city have cancelled their Christmas festival celebrations this year.

Bombay Gymkhana  has decided to cancel its annual Christmas and New Year Celebrations this year in a show of solidarity with the families that have lost their loved ones in terrorist attacks.

National Sports Club has called off Christmas celebrations after losing four members in the recent terror attacks.

The Catholic Gymkhana published in Mid Day (16/12/08) - Members kindly note that the Christmas and New year dances are cancelled.

MIG Cricket Club, Bandra has still not decided about the Christmas or New Year celebrations.

Schools Plans to have a quite Christmas

Several schools across Mumbai have decided to tone down Christmas Festival this year or even do away with the celebrations altogether, in the wake of the recent terrorist attacks that paralyzed life in the city.

The Cathedral and John Cannon School at Fort, which celebrates Christmas with gusto every year, will not do so this year as the November 26 terror attack claimed the life of 15 people associated with the school, including parents, teachers and the students.

Bombay Scottish School, Mahim has also decided to do away with the  Christmas Concert. We have not received any official letter from the school though.

Even other missionary schools across Mumbai, from Colaba to Malad said they did not feel like celebrating the festival this year after what the city has gone through. Holy Family School, Andheri, will not host any festive lunch or dinner this year.

Its but natural for the companies, clubs or schools to tone down the celebrations this year.
