Nokia Just announced the launch of their new flagship cell phone, the Nokia N97. We present the specifications, features and information about the Nokia N97. The new N97 is a 5-inch, 640 x 360 pixel screen, giving you an aspect ratio of 16:9. Did we forget to mention that the display is also touchscreen like a lot of new phones coming in the market after the super successful Apple iPhone. Nokia is betting big on the N97 and this is visible from the specs of Nokia N97 and the features of the N97.
Nokia is calling the N97 a special phone by saying that it is the “world’s most advanced mobile computer.” Let’s see if the specs of the Nokia N97 can back up this huge claim by Nokia. The 32GB onboard memory, as well as a microSD expansion, up to 48GB, is a huge leap above the Apple iPhone. The phone also features HSDPA, WiFi and 5 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss glass. The Nokia N97 was announced to the world in Barcelona.
At the launch Nokia called the Nokia N97 its flagship multimedia phone for 2009. It is no doubt the most exciting product to come from Nokia in some time. Nokia Product managers were calling it the “Facebook Phone” because it’s aimed at mobile social networkers and heavy users. The key specs of the N97 are: tri-band HSDPA 3G support; 802.11b/g Wi-Fi; aGPS and standalone GPS; 3.5-inch touch-resistive touch screen that measures 640-by-360 pixels in a 16:9 wide-screen format; 32 GB of built-in memory, with support for another 16 GB with the addition of a microSD card; 5-megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics, LED flash, and video capture at 30 frames per second; on-board accelerometer and compass; and support for Flash Lite 3.0 and Flash Video in the browser.
As for the hardware of the Nokia N97, the preview units shown at the launch by Nokia were literally built by hand and the product managers couldn’t stress enough that they are many generations away from being final. The screen, QWERTY sliding keyboard and the huge memory makes N97 a phone that can finally compete with the Apple iPhone. What Nokia is most excited about was the revised home screen. The new home screen features a revamped interface, resembling that of the 5800 XpressMusic. It has built-in access to social networking functions, such as Facebook and MySpace. The home screen is fully customizable, so users can set it up to match their usage.
This is probably one of the best answers from Nokia (and othe mobile companies) to the Apple iPhone yet. It will be priced at about $695 or Rs 35,000 and in expected to his the Market in 2009 Mid.
