Shivraj Patil Out and RR Patil goofs up

So finally Shivraj Patil, Union Home Minister is on his was out. He finally resigned after taking moral responsibility of the terror attacks in Mumbai that lasted almost 60 hours in November 2008. Shivraj Patil has been at the receiving end of a lot of criticism for the last few months and finally after all the chaos in Mumbai this ‘Maharashtrian’ Home Minister who allegedly did not do enough to protect the people of his ‘home’ state has resigned to the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

Unfortunately, this incident has brought back the politicians back into the limelight, which they were probably missing as most of the airtime was being hogged by the hard working armed forces and police. So with one swift ‘action’ the politicians and politics are back to hog TV Air time and all television channel are back to reporting the political pushes and pulls in Delhi and forgetting the ’story’ in Mumbai. News Stories of who will be the next home minister - will it be Pranab Mukherjee or P. Chidambaram? are already on Indian TV channel and all the Heroes are forgotten. In fact the DG of NSG Gen. JK Dutt was conducting a press conference in Delhi which was conveniently forgotten by most TV channels.

Barkha Dutt who till yesterday was saying that “enough is enough” is busy standing in front of the Taj but reporting the politics of Delhi and not the War on Mumbai!! You too Barkha Dutt!! And how can we forget the opposition leaders and opposition spokespersons who are busy making the most of this situation and are now demanding the resignation of the PM and the Govt in Delhi. It is really shocking to see how quickly we are all back to normal. Who said it was the spirit of Mumbaikars to forget and get back to normal life quickly, this disease to forget and get back to normal seems to have spread to Delhi also. So each one in the ’system’ is making the most of the incident while Mumbai recovers the loss of its 200 citizens.

The other Mr Patil, Mr R.R. Patil, Maharashtra’s Home Minister, seems to have put his foot in the mouth. In a press interaction Mr RR Patil said that the terrorists came to kill 5000 people and could only kill 200 (which means he and his troops saved 4800 people) and then went on to say that in big cities like Mumbai such things will happen (maybe meaning to say “whats all the fuzz about”). We all saw politicians caught on the wrong foot in this ‘war on mumbai’ but maybe RR Patil’s incident is probably the worst of the lot. I hope he will quickly apologise and fix things and even maybe do what the Mr Patil at the Centre did.

24 hours after the operations finished in Mumbai to clean up the terrorist our political class seems to be continuing to misread the mood of the public and continues to make wrong moves like saying the wrong things, offering compensation while operations are on (Mr Modi), making visits to sites when the army needed clean areas (Mr Munde), putting hoardings in Mumbai to demonstrate upmanship, etc.

God save us.

Dont miss these political hoardings from Mumbais Streets (from rediff.com)
