The Great Mahendra Kapoor Passes Away in Bandra and more….

The bomb blasts case in Delhi seemed to have got resolved in Delhi last week but by the end of the week Delhi suffered through the torture of another bomb blast and everyone is still wondering if the cases of bomb blast really did get resolved. PM, Manmohan Singh celebrated his birthday in NY with George Bush while Pak PM flirted with maybe next VP Palin. The Nuclear Deal and the news around it continues to dominate and it seems to be delayed all the time.

With the US grappling with their biggest financial turmoil of the century, the nuclear deal seems a small issue for them. Big names like Lehman Brothers, AIG, Washington Mutual, etc are in trouble or bankrupt. The US Govt wants to bail out these financial bodies with a cost of some $700 billion. Obviously the impact of this on jobs in BPOs and Call Centers and IT companies will be huge. Commercial and Rental Property prices is predicted to be hit badly and some early signs are visible in Bandra Kurla Complex and other places in Mumbai. So do Stock prices on Dalal Street. Most banks in India went on the overdrive trying to calm consumers and rumours about ICICI were really doing the rounds. In all this Mukesh Ambani flashed a bottle of Cride Oil in front of their stakeholders asking them to be patient and his younger brother went and tied up with Steven Spielberg in Hollywood to make big movies together. While CEOs in Noida continued to be at the receiving end of attacks.

In Bengal Tata’s walked out with the Nano and are not sure where to park the car now, our dear Chief Minister of Maharashtra seems to be keen to provide some parking for the Nano. Can Maharashtra really get these projects given the current opposition to the other projects - to some even through referendum? At least we hear that Renault has opened a design studio in Mumbai for their new cars.

The cricket season is about to start with a bang with a new look BCCI and even a new BCCI web site. Mumbaikar Vengsarkar is replaced by Kris Srikkant as chairman of selectors and some news reports suggested that Dalmiya and Pawar have made up and Lalit Modi has broken up with Pawar camp, however is made the chairman of Champion League T20 Board. This is when Ratnakar Shetty is upset with Lalit Modi for rolling out the red carpet to the Australian Team in Jaipur along with guru Greg. Almost sounds like the soap opera of cricket!!

We hear our very own Mumbai will host the Champions League T20 final in December. Hopefully all the bomb blasts will not create problems and we can see some festival action in Mumbai. Also, hopefully, the upcoming Navratri festival goes through without a problem. The police will obviously be on high alert and so will all the Dandiya Organisers. Tare Zameen Pe is going to the Oscars without the usual chaos that happens before the selection of the Indian Nomination to go the Oscars. Best wishes Aamir Khan. Also our best wishes to his nephew Imran Khan for his next movie Kidnap and also to Abhishek Bachchan for Drona. Sanjay Gadhvi who directed Abhishek in Dhoom will now be releasing his movie Kidnap on the same day as Drona!! Another soap opera unfolding here?

Hema Malini caused a fair bit of chaos in the trains, the great Lata Mangeshkar celebrated her birthday this week and Zubin Mehta will be in Mumbai for a music festival. I always thought Hari Puttar was some joke to poke fun at Harry Potter but someone made a movie by that name!!

The great singer and a Bandra resident Mahendra Kapoor passed away. Here a couple of his contributions to Indian Music….
