The KBS Foundation

The KBS Foundation is a non-profit, non-political and non-sectarian, social and charitable organization, based on community participation and formed by 5 associations / ALM’s of Khar, Bandra as permanent members.

We are a group of committed and concerned citizens who have come together to voice common concerns of the citizens and to undertake projects across various localities of Khar, Bandra and Santacruz to fulfill a common and passionate objective of cleaner, greener and beautiful surroundings for a better quality of life.

With this mission in mind, the KBS Foundation has undertaken 3 projects;

1. Extension of the Carter Road Promenade

The existing Carter Road promenade is a prestigious citizens’ project and a jewel in the crown of Bandra. The project has opened up tremendous recreational opportunities for the citizens of the locality and has enhanced the quality of life. It has also clearly demonstrated that when there is a public - private partnership the overall locality benefit.

We now propose to extend the Carter Road Promenade by a distance of 150 meters. The extension will be from the end of the existing promenade upto and opposite the gate of the Buddhist Cemetery.

Besides beautification, additional recreational facilities for senior citizens, study center for underprivileged children and the concept of alternate energy for the needs of the project are also incorporated in the plan designed by prominent architect Mr. P.K. Das.

The project is funded from the MPLAD funds of the honorable Smt. Priya Dutt MP and the MLA funds of the honorable Mr. Baba Siddique, Minister of State, Maharashtra.The KBS Foundation will undertake the maintenance and upkeep of this part on completion.

2. Community Radio

The Community Radio will be a strong tool to spread and propagate our civic ideas and messages to the public and to persuade them to adopt the same. We have applied to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, New Delhi and have received the Letter of Intent from the Ministry. We hope to get the license to operate a Radio Station with a Range to cover H-W ward, Mumbai.

3. Community Centre

Some of the Facilities planned for the Community Centre:

  1. Working module and demonstration of Composting / Wormiculture.
  2. Working module and demonstration of Rain Water Harvesting, Drip Irrigation. We plan to use the harvested - bore well water only for irrigation.
  3. Non-Conventional Sources of Energy: Solar photovoltaic panels and possibly a Windmill (if tower is allowed to be erected) will be installed to meet the major portion of power requirements of the Centre.
  4. Library and a few other facilities for Senior Citizens.
  5. Elementary education for destitute children.
  6. Free medical consultation to the poor.
