My cousin from Bareilly in UP was paying me a visit last month. One of the thrills that we Mumbaikars can offer to our out-of-town visitors is to take them around and show them STAR HOMES.  They get really tickled, gazing at stars ka bangles.  So one evening, I decided to treat her to bhutta and a dekho at residences of our screen gods. While driving her around Bandra and pointing at these star homes, it suddenly dawned on me that Bandra has convincingly and assuredly dethroned Juhu as Beverly Hills of Mumbai.

 

Many of the top stars of today like Shah Rukh Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Salman Khan, Sanjay Dutt, Aamir Khan, Rishi Kapoor and Jackie Shroff reside in Bandra West. New heartthrobs namely Imran Khan and Ranveer Kapoor – where do you think they call home??? Right!! Bandra!!! Abhishek and Aishwarya Rai’s dream home is under construction on Carter Road in Bandra. Top heroines like Kareena Kapoor, Preity Zinta and Sushmita Sen also have their aashiyanas in the by-lanes of Bandra.  And let’s not forget the darling of cricket lovers’ world over- Sachin Tendulkar. He has just bought a multi-crore bungalow opposite Joggers’ Park, again in Bandra.

 

Bandra is also the proud home of yesteryear favourites like Dilip Kumar, Saira Bano, Sunil Dutt, Helen, Pran, Rajesh Khanna, Rekha and Reena Roy. The list of illustrious Bandraities can be endless—Rakyesh Mehra of Raang De Basanti, Mansoor Ali Khan, Salim of  Salim Javed fame, Gulzar…

 

We in Bandra are quite blasé about spotting Saif Ali Khan at Olive or seeing Helen or Dilip Kumar walking at Joggers’ Park. I have rubbed shoulders with Gauri Khan, shopping at Patel’s.

 

No wonder Bandra has now become the most sought-after address in Mumbai. Viva la Bandra!!!!!!
